Timed analysis research

Sleeping With Sirens- The Strays- Timed Analysis G324 from FernDisney
This is my first Timed Analysis of the music video The Strays, sung by Sleeping With Sirens. The reason this analysis is in so much depth is due to the sheer amount of jump cuts used in this. Timed analysis' are very helpful when research music videos because it shows different techniques to use. As one of my groups idea is on the rebellion of youth subculture, I wanted to pick this song because  I feel the editing style fits really well with my idea. It has also shown me as an editor that when doing this project, we will not be able to shoot in just on day, it will take several shoots to achieve this amount of different shots.

Troye sivan- youth music video, Timed analysis- G324 from FernDisney
This is my second timed analysis on Troye Sivan's music video of Youth. As we are hoping to youth, this song fits really well. Furthermore, I chose this for the music video to analyse because the editing is really interesting, even though unlike the Sleeping with sirens one, there isn't as many jump cuts, there were still quite a lot, but I was able to cut them down as they fitted together- for example Troye singing in different places, but in all the shots there are zoom in shots. This research has helped me a lot because it has shown me how even if I want to do Youth, I do not need to get so many shots, like the one above.
From Sleeping with sirens and Troye Sivan's music videos, I am able to gain different ideas to use in my final piece.
For example, In the Sleeping with Sirens video, I hope to take the variety and fast paced shots of different people- just not as many shots; then with the Troye Sivan music video I can take the partying and colourful side of youth- this music video doesn't make the youth subculture look as bad as people make out- they are happy to be a community- as we also see in Sleeping with Sirens music video.

5 Seconds Of Summer- Amnesia.
The song is about the break up of a couple and how they miss their loved one because she had to move away and they wish they could forget about it- get Amnesia, when there are two aspects to this music video, the performance part where the group are singing to to the camera, when they are all upset, but then there is a narrative part of it where it shows the story of their relationship, showing them happy, this shows youth because it shows the relationship aspect of it, but at the same time it shows the having part of it. As my whole idea is the narrative part of it and I have already gone into so much detail about the singer singing to the camera, in this timed analysis, I just purely wanted to record the narrative part of it.

Questionnaire results

Summary of Primary Research...
Across the board the results of the questionnaire was really useful into helping me and Megan gain an insight on our target audience in order to achieve the most "approachable" music video as possible. To start with the most chosen preferable music video type was an even split between a narrative one and a hybrid one. This has helped show us how we could do either one of them as these were the popular of our audience at this time. However due to a lack of access to a band, myself and Megan may find is quite hard to do a hybrid music video, but as narrative was also top chosen, it suggests it would still be approachable for our audience.

We then asked our group whether it was important in the connection between the audience and the main character and found a very close result, with yes coming in at higher just by two votes. This has helped show us how the people we have chosen for this questionnaire would prefer if we were to use just one main character in following them around in the narrative.

Before giving out our questionnaires, I explained to everyone our three final ideas in depth so they were able to decide themselves what one they prefer more. If we were to choose the one which we liked it may not have been as approachable to our audience as we wanted as it would have been just our idea. The main idea which got the highest vote was the idea of teaching our audience about drugs and the negative sides of them. This questionnaire here has been especially useful because it has shown us the idea people prefer more.
