When researching, there are many different music videos/ songs which cover the topic of drugs. Singing about the death of friends and the dow side of drugs are examples such asMaclemore- Drug Dealer.
The lyrics include- "My homie was taken gateway drug but he anti woke up". Rapping about the people who have been taken by drugs. The whole music video is low key lighting, making a sad atmosphere showing how bad drugs are.
Yet when researching, I found it very hard to find the contrast of the supposedly good side of drugs- showing them having fun but then the convention on showing the negative- the failing of college. Therefore, myself and Megan wanted to do something different from everything else. Even though we wanted to do about drugs, we didn't want to do something which had been overly done- for example having the whole music video of them on drugs having fun, or the whole video being the down side. Our whole moral of the music video is in order to teach our audience you don't need to take drugs/ say yes to things which you are unsure about to have a good time.
Another example of an influence to our music product is...
Kill J Cold Stone.
This music video shows a younger girl trying to get into a gang and in order for her to do so, she has to commit crimes which we can see as the audience that she doesn't want to, yet does it any way for the acceptance of her "friends" yet as the video progresses we see the tasks getting harder for her to do. The down side of this music video is that it gets dark- they include a dog and they want her to kill him, yet she says no to them because she doesn't want to do that, but then we see her getting beaten up. Even though I didn't like the ending with the dog being taken from the owners and then almost being killed, this is a good example of trying to get into a gang. Yet it doesn't convey our idea completely which I think shows how our idea hasn't been done very much. This influence can be used in order to give us ideas on factors to include- running down the street with people looking at them because they are making so much noise- they are not respecting other people.
Another main influence of our media idea is...
Wolf Alice-Fluffy.
This music video is about a girl trying to get into a friendship group of all boys. This shows our influence because we hope to make it very clear to our audience that our character is an outsider to the new group- this director done this by making the character a girl and the rest of the group boys. As you can see even from the thumbnail, they are giving her something- a lighter- which makes her uncomfortable but doesn't say no because she doesn't want to be judged by the group of friends. Even though this music video isn't about drugs, myself and Megan were still able to pull out ideas to help us create our media product. Additionally, wolf Alice is generally connected with the genre of Indie/ Alternative music which is very similar to the artist we have chosen as our final song- Sundara Karma Young Understanding.
In terms of editing, there have been various influences. The majority of the music video will be high edited as the suggestion of drugs and being high. I found it hard to find a music video identical to the style we want but in general most much videos about drugs have similarities. Including fast jump cuts but the subject being slowed down- this shows the confusion state of mind people suffer when on drugs. Me and Megan are hoping to up the editing as music as possible during the drug stages in order to form as much as an over exaggeration as possible because if we weren't to do so, I do not think we would be able to gain the "drugs are really bad" vibe as I would hope to.
An example of an influence for editing is...
Getter- Head Splitter

Although part of this music video is the medium of "doodle art" where there is drawn aspect of this video, I still think part of it can be used for show our influences of editing. The first small image shown above is of a close up of someone overlaid with an extreme close up of the person in different colours showing the distortion. Then one of the main parts of filming will be to create this fish lens distortion as shown in the first bigger image- you can see his surroundings and he appears distorted, this effect would be useful in the drugs part of our music video because I think it would make the editing of lots of bold colours really easy and clear to our audience what is happening. The other three images are also influencing our media product because of the high amount of colouring used- the colours are out of place and of colours which shouldn't normally be there which I think would be a good way to use the suggestion of being on drugs because it shows the confusion which is related to drugs.
